Crude oil prices dropped sharply in New York Monday as the Dow Jones industrial average extended its losses through a third consecutive trading session.
Crude oil prices on the New York State Mercantile Exchange lost 2.6 percent last week and fell another 1.3 percent Monday, falling 88 cents to $72.94 per barrel.
While no major economic reports swayed the market Monday, economic data have not been supportive of late. Last week, confidence was shaken by a resurgence in first-time jobless claims and weak reports on U.S. manufacturing.
Heating oil prices on Monday shed 0.0139 cents from a previous settlement to $1.9571 per gallon. Reformulated blendstock gasoline prices shed 0.0283 cents to $1.8392 per gallon. Henry Hub natural gas prices dropped 0.043 cents to $4.074 per million British thermal units.
At gas stations, the national average price of unleaded gasoline fell to $2.708 Monday from Sunday's $2. 713, AAA said.
